Breast augmentation surgery is still the most popular plastic surgery procedure performed today. While silicone breast implants can be safe, many patients come to use seeking breast augmentation surgery with saline implants. These low-risk, small-incision implants offer a number of advantages for patients looking to enhance their curves and contours.

Dr. Paul G. Pin is pleased to offer saline implants at his Dallas, TX plastic surgery center. Let’s consider the history of saline implants to show how saline implants have evolved to meet the needs of patients today.

The First Saline Breast Implants

The first saline breast implants were invented in France in 1965 by Dr. H. G. Arion. The Heyer Schulte Corporation became the first American maker of saline breast implants in 1968.

Unfortunately, first-generation saline breast implants were fragile, with a 76 percent chance of rupturing. These first saline implants also produced a sloshing sound due to the liquid shifting within the implant shell.

Improvements to Saline Breast Implants

Second-generation saline breast implants attempted to improve on the early implants by using a double-lumen design.

This involved an outer shell for the implant as well as an inner shell to hold the saline solution. The double-lumen design helped prevent ruptures while improving aesthetics.

Silicone Breast Implant Restrictions (1992-2006)

In 1992, the FDA placed a moratorium on silicone breast implants, with some exceptions made for reconstructive surgeries.

This moratorium was the result of health concerns linked to leaking silicone gel. Until 2006, saline breast implants were the only breast implants that could be used in the United States for non-reconstructive procedures.

About The IDEAL IMPLANT

The IDEAL IMPLANT is a new saline implant that takes the innovations and concerns of the past and brings them forward into a new generation of implants.

Tested and developed over the course of 10 years, The IDEAL IMPLANT uses a patented structured form of the double-lumen design. There is an outer shell, an outer lumen, intermediate shell layers, an inner shell, and an inner lumen.

What Makes The IDEAL IMPLANT the Next Step in Evolution?

The IDEAL IMPLANT brings together the best of both worlds with none of the drawbacks. IDEAL breast implants are safe like saline implants yet have a look and feel that is comparable to silicone breast implants. This focus on health and aesthetics make them an ideal option for many breast augmentation patients.

  • The aesthetics and feel of silicone breast implants
