BBL™ and BBL HERO™

BBL, or Broadband Light, is the best light-based device available on the market. This technology is also referred to as IPL (intense pulsed light) by other laser companies. It is often referred to as a photofacial or photo-rejuvenation. This is an extremely dynamic technology that allows us to target the specific area that bothers the patient. The BBL HERO technology allows the face and other areas of the body (decolletage, hands, arms, etc.) to be treated more efficiently. This is a technology that primarily targets darker pigment and vasculature in the skin, so it is only safe to use on individuals with lighter skin tones.

THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF LESIONS ARE WHAT WE ARE USUALLY TREATING IN OUR OFFICE:

  • Age spots/sun spot
  • General dyspigmentation
  • Small blood vessels on the face
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Pigmentation from scarring
  • Brightening the appearance of dull skin

In a study by a Stanford Dermatologist, Dr. Patrick Bitter, they found that a series of three treatments with the Sciton BBL spaced 4 weeks apart resulted in an actual change in the DNA expression. This resulted in more youthful expression of your genetics to create healthier and more vibrant skin!

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect after my Sciton BBL treatment?

The Sciton BBL requires minimal downtime. After the procedure, the skin may temporarily be red and any dark spots may temporarily appear darker. Most redness fades in a few hours, and any remaining pinkness will face over the following week. Patients with darker pigmentation may notice the flaking of these pigmented lesions 1-2 weeks after your treatment. Immediately following your treatment we will apply a gentle moisturizer to your skin, but you can apply makeup the same day as your treatment. We usually recommend waiting until the next day to start exercising or 72 hours if small blood vessels are being treated.

It is important for you to protect your skin from the sun as much as possible before and after your BBL treatment using a high quality sunscreen SPF 30 or greater. Any added pigment in, or on your skin (think bronzed tan) will increase your risk of having an adverse outcome. Following the BBL, your skin will be more sensitive to the sun and risks early recurrence of lesions.

How many treatments do I need to have?

When performing the Sciton BBL for corrective purposes, most individuals will need 3-6 treatments to correct issues with pigment or redness. These sessions are typically 4-6 weeks apart.  Once the corrective treatments have been completed, we recommend continuing to treat your skin every 3-4 months to enhance the longevity of your results and prevent the recurrence of skin lesions.
