A liposuction procedure is designed to remove stubborn pockets of excess fat that have not diminished despite regular exercise and a balanced, low-fat diet. For many patients, the liposuction procedure is viewed as the finishing touch to enable them to proudly show off to friends and family the results of all their hard efforts to get into better shape. As a result, it is not unusual for patients who are considering undergoing liposuction to have a certain amount of impatience regarding the best time to undergo the procedure, as well as how long it will be in order to see results. However, Dr. Paul Pin cautions patients to consider the best way in which to time their liposuction so as to both give their bodies time to heal and get optimal results.

Wedding Planning

For many brides to be, a liposuction procedure may allow them to look their best on their wedding day. However, planning liposuction around a wedding is not unlike planning the food, reception hall, and entertainment for a wedding. Most wedding planners will tell you that you should select your wedding dress at least nine months prior to the wedding. Considering that it may be up to two months before you see the final results from your liposuction, you are now looking at planning to have your procedure done an entire year before your wedding date. Also keep in mind that your body shape will change during the alteration process. Most final alterations are set for six to eight weeks prior to the wedding, so keep this in mind as well.

Mommy Makeovers

A mommy makeover is one of the more popular procedures that Dr. Pin offers his patients who are looking to regain their pre-pregnancy and pre-breastfeeding body shape. This makeover will usually include a breast lift, breast augmentation or reduction, tummy tuck, and abdominal liposuction. It should not be surprising that many women who have just undergone childbirth and breastfeeding are eager to begin the work of getting into shape, which may include liposuction.

However, Dr. Pin cautions patients not too dive into liposuction too soon after childbirth. It may take the body a while to recover from pregnancy, so it can be difficult to determine what the final outcome might be if a liposuction is done too soon. Instead, start in on a weight loss program of regular exercise and a balanced diet as soon as possible after childbirth. By the end of six to nine months, the body should have fully recovered and the weight stabilized enough for a patient to undergo liposuction.

Athletic Competitions

Not all patients who want to undergo liposuction are content with a sedate lifestyle. In fact, Dr. Pin has a number of patients who regularly enter athletic competitions such as marathons, bike races, or swim meets. For these patients, such competitions can often form the cornerstones around which they structure their lives. Given that not only must they often decide to enter such competitions months in advance, but the entry fees can often be rather steep, timing a liposuction procedure can be crucial for them to perform as well as possible. As mentioned previously, it can take up to eight weeks to fully heal and see the final results from a liposuction. Thus, Dr. Pin advises his athletic patients to not compete for a minimum of eight weeks following surgery, and to gradually work back up to their pre-surgery level of athletic activities.
