neck liftA long, elegant neck reminiscent of prima ballerinas… this has been the standard of beauty in the Western world for centuries. Unfortunately, a number of men and women have developed excess skin, lax muscles, and extra fat in the neck area. These aesthetic imperfections can detract from your overall appearance and make you feel self conscious when wearing clothing that reveals the neck and décolletage. At the Dallas practice of Paul Pin, MD, our patients can undergo neck lift surgery to rejuvenate their look.

Am I a Neck Lift Candidate?

Good candidates for neck lift surgery should be in good health and not smoke; Suitable patients have loose skin and pockets of localized fat on the neck that results from genetics, the aging process, excessive exposure to the sun, and weight loss. Patients with good skin elasticity and small amounts of excess skin may be better suited for the liposuction procedure alone.

The Neck Lift Procedure

Neck lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia and the entire procedure takes two to three hours to complete; patients that undergo other facial plastic surgery procedures, such as facelift, eyelid surgery, or brow lift, in combination with neck lift may be in surgery for a longer period of time. Once you are sedated and comfortable, Dr. Pin will create incisions under the chin and/or behind the ears. Then, Dr. Pin can lift the skin and tighten the underlying neck muscles. At this point, liposuction may also be performed to remove excess fat. Next, Dr. Pin will reposition the skin to produce a smoother and more refined appearance. Finally, the incisions are closed with sutures.

Neck Lift Recovery

Depending on your individual surgical plan, drains may be placed to collect fluid and accelerate your recovery. After surgery, patients should return home and rest for a few days, during which time it is normal to experience pain, swelling bruising, and tightness in the neck area. Patients can return to work a week or two after surgery; the amount of time that it takes to return to work and other obligations depends on your treatment plan and your body's ability to recover.
