The body loses collagen over time as it ages. Collagen is a protein that helps fill out the skin over the skeletal frame. Collagen loss can lead to a gaunt, hollowed expression to the face. This can be particularly evident around the eyelids, as loose skin and pockets of excess fat form. The end result is eyes that look tired and worn, which will only contribute to an aging appearance.

Many patients wonder what can be done to improve their facial features, but without having to undergo a complete facelift procedure. In certain cases, an eyelid cosmetic surgical procedure may be exactly what the patient is looking for.

Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Eyelid surgery can be performed on either the upper or lower lid. It will remove excess fat and loose skin from around the eyes, leaving them looking more alert and refreshed.

An upper eyelid procedure is performed by making a small incision in the crease of the upper eyelid. Excess fat is then removed, along with loose skin. The incision is then sutured close, with the surgeon tightening up the skin around the upper eyelid. For a lower lid procedure, the incision is made just under the lower lash line. Dr. Paul Pin will then remove any excess pockets of fat or loose skin in order to minimize bags or dark circles under the eyes.

Below are some before and after photos of Dr. Pin's patients who have undergone eyelid surgery. Although no two patients will have the exact same results, these pictures may be helpful for patients to see the range of results that can be achieved from the procedure.

Before and After Images

Upper Blepharoplasty with Browlift

Upper eyelid surgery and browlift

This case is a good example of what can be achieved from surgery on just the upper eyelids to remove fat and excess skin. Notice that the eyes look larger, and the upper eyelids look less hooded. The effect is subtle, yet brightens the entire face.

Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery, Facelift, and Browlift

Upper and lower eyelid surgery, facelift, and browlift

This is a somewhat more dramatic effect, as this patient had both the upper and lower eyelids improved. In addition to opening up the eyes and decreasing the appearance of hooded eyelids, the circles and bags under the eyes were diminished.

Male Upper Eyelid Surgery, Browlift, and Facelift

Male upper eyelid surgery, facelift, and browlift

This case shows an example of the results that men may achieve from eyelid surgery. Although the eyes are more open and alert, there is still a strong brow line, thereby helping the patient avoid an overdone look. This is another example of how a relatively small change to the facial features can result in a noticeable improvement.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper eyelid surgery

This is a good example of what can be achieved from only removing excess loose skin on the upper eyelids. The upper eyelids have a less sunken, hollowed look to them, which has caused the eyes to look much brighter than before surgery.

Many people feel that their tired or worn facial features do not actually represent their vibrancy and energy. Eyelid surgery can help.
