The high school graduation season is upon us and parents throughout the country are trying to decide on the perfect graduation gifts for their sons and daughters. In the past few years, the breast augmentation procedure has become more of a common graduation present for teenage girls.

Many parents who are considering paying for their daughter's breast implants have the same concern: is breast augmentation safe for teenagers?

The American Society for Plastic Surgeons recommends that teens wait until they are at least 18 years of age before undergoing the breast augmentation procedure. Further, the FDA has only approved the use of saline implants in women who are 18 years and older, while silicone implants are approved for use in women aged 22 and over.

It is important that teenagers discuss breast augmentation and their aesthetic goals with a board-certified plastic surgeon prior to making the decision to undergo the procedure.
