Breast augmentation has consistently been the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), breast augmentation was the most popular cosmetic surgery performed by its members in 2014. Surgeons performed a total of more than 280,000 surgeries in 2014. This was almost equal to the number performed in 2013.

Despite the popularity of breast augmentation procedures, there are a number of cases in which the augmentation alone is not enough to produce satisfactory results. In such instances, the breast tissue and skin have been overly stretched due to weight change from dramatic weight loss or pregnancy and breastfeeding. As a result, the breasts have drooped or sagged, and must be lifted into a higher position on the chest. Dr. Paul Pin frequently performs breast lifts and augmentations at the same time.

Breast Lift and Augmentation Procedure

Breast lift: In this procedure, the breast and nipple are repositioned higher on the chest so that the nipples face forward instead of down and have not fallen below the line of the inframammary crease (the point on the underside of the breast where it meets the chest wall). Depending on the size of the breasts and the amount of droop, there are several approaches that can be used.

Breast augmentation: There are also several surgical approaches that can be used to place the breast implants. When performing breast augmentation with lift, the inframammary and/or areolar incision techniques may be used.

Below are some Before and After photographs to give prospective patients an idea of the results that can be achieved after undergoing breast lift with augmentation.

Before and After Photos

Breast Augmentation with Lift After Weight Loss

Surgery after Weight Loss:  This is an example of how a breast augmentation and lift can improve the look of droopy breasts due to dramatic weight loss. In addition, this patient had breasts of two different sizes. The Before images show how the breasts have sagged so that the nipples are pointing down. The After images show them pointing forward, along with more fullness to both breasts.

Breast Augmentation with Lift After Breastfeeding

Surgery after Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: This patient is a good example of the results of a breast lift and augmentation following pregnancy and breastfeeding. As in the previous case, you can see that the breasts have sagged and lost fullness in the Before photo, and have been lift and augmented in the After image.

Breast Asymmetry Correction by Augmentation with Lift

Breast Asymmetry: This patient also had breasts of two different sizes, but it was more pronounced than that of the patient in case 1. The Before image shows that one nipple points further downward than the other. One breast is noticeably smaller and sits higher on the chest than the other one. Similar to the previous cases, these problems were corrected in the after image.

It is not unusual for women to feel more self-conscious about their breasts after weight loss or pregnancy and breastfeeding. Combining a breast lift with an augmentation procedure may give them just the emotional boost they need. To schedule a breast augmentation and lift consultation, contact Dr. Pin's practice today.
