Lines, wrinkles, pockmarks, and other cosmetic flaws can have a negative impact on your appearance. While facial plastic surgery can remedy many of these problems, Dallas, TX cosmetic surgeon Paul Pin, MD has achieved comparable results thanks to Restylane® injections.

Restylane® is one of the most popular cosmetic injectables available today. This FDA-approved injection can help patients look years younger, and can also enhance certain facial features that may be lacking.

What Is Restylane®?

Restylane® is a dermal filler that adds volume to the injection sites, which helps conceal the depth and prominence of various wrinkles, lines, and blemishes.

The primary ingredient in Restylane® is hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the human body. Because of its composition, Restylane® is unlikely to cause allergic reactions, meaning that patents experience the cosmetic benefits with a low risk of complications.

Restylane® Candidates

Good candidates for Restylane® injections are people who suffer from static lines and wrinkles that affect the appearance of the face. This may include the following:

  • Smile lines
  • Marionette lines
  • Lines at the corners of the mouth
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Smoker’s lines

In addition, cosmetic surgeons have also used Restylane® injections to treat a host of other cosmetic imperfections that negatively impact facial aesthetics. This includes:

  • Enhancing thin lips
  • Improving cheek volume
  • Filling acne scars
  • Sagging under the eyes

Restylane® is worth considering for people who would benefit from cosmetic enhancement but would prefer to avoid undergoing facial plastic surgery. Good candidates should not be currently pregnant or breastfeeding. During the consultation process, we can discuss your aesthetic goals and determine if Restylane® is an ideal means of meeting your needs.

The Restylane® Procedure

The Restylane® procedure is performed as part of a brief office visit. Overall treatment time should take no more than 30 minutes and is often much shorter. Local anesthetic is sometimes placed on the injection site to reduce patient pain and discomfort.

The plastic surgeon then injects small amounts of Restylane® into the treatment area using a thin needle. The surgeon may pause between injections just to ensure the most ideal results possible.

Restylane® Recovery

Recovery from Restylane® injections is typically simple. Patients do not need to take time off from work in order to undergo Restylane® treatment. Patients can resume most of their normal activities the same day as long as those activities do not involve strenuous physical activity. Patients should avoid direct sunlight exposure for the next day or so.

For the first 24 hours after Restylane® treatment, patients may notice redness, swelling, or bruising around the injection site. This can be managed with a cold compress as directed. Frequent touching or rubbing of the treated area should be avoided for the first few days. Patients may also be told to avoid making certain facial expressions that affect the treated area.

Restylane® Results

Because Restylane® is a dermal filler, results are visible immediately after the injections have been administered. Patients will notice reduced appearance of lines and wrinkles and/or enhancement of certain parts of the skin and face.

The overall results of Restylane® will last anywhere from eight to twelve months. When the Restylane® results wear off, patients can undergo additional Restylane® treatments as needed to prolong the cosmetic benefits.
