For many years, the trend in breast implants was that bigger was always better. Celebrities such as Pamela Anderson had large, round breasts that were very prominent underneath tight fitting clothing and swimsuits. This led many women to request similar looking implants from Dr. Pin. However, this trend has now shifted toward smaller implants that have a more natural look and feel. In fact, even Pamela Anderson has purportedly changed out her larger breast implants for smaller ones. What are some of the reasons for this trend, and why is it likely to get you better results in the long run?

More Natural Appearance

Smaller breast implants provide a more natural appearance and are more tailored to your particular build. Dr. Pin will use breast implants with different profiles (the ratio between the implant height and its width) to accomplish this. For example, if you have a narrow chest, an implant with a high profile is an excellent choice because its height is greater than its width, so your augmented breasts will not appear crowded too close to one another. Conversely, low-profile implants are a better choice if you have a wide chest to avoid the appearance of your breasts being spaced too far apart.

Enhanced but not Extreme

One problem that many women had with the previous trend of bigger breasts was that they were not comfortable with calling that much attention to themselves. Fortunately, the move toward smaller implants allows them to enhance their breasts to a size with which they are comfortable. This will allow them to show off the results from their breast augmentation without feeling embarrassed about it.

Fewer Medical Issues

Smaller implants also have the advantage of causing fewer medical issues during the healing phase and afterward. Dr. Pin uses shorter incisions for smaller breast implants, so there will be less scarring than with larger implants. Furthermore, there is less chance of stretch marks due to the added weight of smaller implants as compared to larger ones. Because less skin and tissue are needed to cover smaller implants, not as much stretching is involved. Finally, some women who opt for larger implants may find that they experience back and shoulder pain due to the additional weight of their augmented breasts. Women with overly large natural breasts experience this exact same problem and often opt to undergo a breast reduction procedure.

Keeping Active

Many of Dr. Pin's patients are active and regularly participate in athletic activities. Unfortunately, large breasts can make it difficult to participate in some sports, particularly those that restrict arm movement. Examples include tennis, running, field hockey or lacrosse, or certain martial arts. Large implants may end up restricting participations in these sports, which can be very frustrating. Smaller implants have the added advantage of enhancing your figure, while still allowing you to engage in the sports activities you love.

There is no reason why you cannot have the benefits of enhanced breasts but without the drawbacks of extremely large implants. Dr. Pin is more than happy to work with you to find the implant size and shape that best shows off your natural features.
