Sciton Halo™  (Hybrid Fractional Laser)

The Sciton Halo Laser is a combination of two different fractionated laser wavelengths, 1470nm (diode) and 2940nm (erbium). The primary goal of this laser is to treat the appearance of fine lines, improve skin tone, decrease the appearance of superficial and deep pigmentation, reduce the size of pores, and give your skin a more radiant appearance. This laser offers a significant improvement over older laser technologies by delivering similar or better results with less downtime. It is primarily used to treat the face, neck, and decolletage. One of the many benefits of this laser is that the intensity of the treatment is set by the provider. This allows for a treatment that can be used on ALL skin types, and also reduce the downtime if this is something the patient is seeking.

The 1470nm (diode) wavelength targets the deeper layer of the skin, the dermis, and creates small areas of tissue coagulation that stimulates your immune system to come to the area of skin damage and clean up this debris. The removal of this debris stimulates the formation of new collagen in these areas to create a more firm appearance to your skin. It is also possible to treat deeper pigment through this same mechanism.

The 2940nm (erbium) wavelength is a purely ablative laser that was designed to eliminate the most superficial layer of your skin. This allows for removal of pigment that may be sitting closer to the surface and also treats the appearance of fine lines. Lastly, this also makes it possible to treat the appearance of scars and reduce the size of pores.

As part of our “Skin Reset” package, two Halo treatments are combined with three BBL treatments to truly turn back the clock on the appearance of your skin. The BBL is excellent at treating the reds (vascular lesions/underlying redness) and browns (freckles/age spots) while also stimulating more youthful expression of the DNA in your skin. The Halo treatment will enhance the removal of the superficial pigment that is brought to the surface by the BBL as well as stimulate new collagen formation. This combination of treatments will completely rewind the clock on your aging skin. The BBL treatments are typically offered 4-6 weeks apart and the Halo treatments are often close to 3 months apart.

Frequently Asked Questions

What results can I expect?

HALO is a complete skin revitalization laser treatment. You will see overall improvements in your skin including a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduced pore size, improved skin reflectivity and glow, and significant removal of discoloration.

How many treatments do you need?

What’s great about HALO is that you can choose how many treatments you want! Discuss your needs with your clinician and you can choose to have one or two more aggressive treatments or have multiple treatments that are less aggressive and achieve a similar goal over a longer period of time.

What happens during the treatment?

Thirty minutes to an hour before the treatment your clinician may place a topical anesthetic on your skin to reduce the sensation during the procedure. The area will be measured with motion tracking technology to ensure the area is treated evenly. Your clinician will treat each measured area by uniformly rolling the HALO handpiece over your skin until the system recognizes the treatment is complete.

What does HALO feel like?

With a topical anesthetic and integrated cooling technology, patients typically experience very little discomfort. Most patients describe the treatment as a feeling of heat with occasional prickling sensations, but are generally comfortable. After the treatment, most patients will continue to feel warm for an additional 15 to 30 minutes, or a bit longer with deeper treatment levels.

How soon after my treatment can I return to normal activities?

For the first 24 hours you should keep your skin protected according to your clinician’s instructions, but after that you should be able to go about your normal activities. After the first 24 hours your skin may begin to peel and show microscopic epidermal necrotic debris (MENDS). For a facial treatment, you will see very little change on the first day. After two to three days you will develop a light bronzing appearance. By day three or four your skin will peel, revealing your new skin beneath.

When will I see results?

You will see initial results between two and five days after your HALO treatment, but your skin will continue to improve over time. Most patients see the greatest pigmentary improvement in the first two to three weeks. This is followed by a dermal regeneration phase that continues to improve for months.

How long will my results last?

HALO results will last for years to come, but you should continue to keep your skin protected at all times using UV sunscreen to protect your new, healthy skin. You should also invest in medical grade skin care to enhance your treatment and maintain results. Each additional HALO treatment you receive will improve the results, giving you even better looking skin.
