Prominent pores can have a negative impact on your appearance. Even if the pores are located in just a small area of your face, they can have a negative effect on the texture of the skin. Oil production from these pores can also give parts of your face a greasy or shiny appearance, particularly as the day wears on.

Laser treatments can help treat large pores, but involve some amount of downtime. Our Dallas, TX cosmetic surgery center can also use modified BOTOX® cosmetic injections to remedy these problems. The treatment is known as Micro BOTOX®.

What Is Micro BOTOX®?

Micro BOTOX® injections are designed to target the sweat glands, oil glands, and the arrector pili muscles, all of which are structures at the surface layer of the skin. Thanks to Micro BOTOX®, the muscles that control the pores are temporarily affected, resulting in less production of sebum. The results of Micro BOTOX® treatment are improved facial aesthetics, including smaller pores and less facial oil.

Micro BOTOX® is also referred to as Meso-BOTOX® and Intradermal-BOTOX®.

How Micro BOTOX® Differs from Traditional BOTOX®

In traditional BOTOX® injections, the deeper muscle groups of the face are targeted, particularly in the forehead, between the eyes, and around the mouth. This prevents patients from making facial expressions that lead to the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.

In Micro BOTOX® injections, the superficial layer of the skin is targeted. By focusing on the topmost layer of a patient’s skin, only the muscles that control the pores are affected, not the deeper muscles of the face.

The Micro BOTOX® Procedure

The Micro BOTOX® procedure is simple and straightforward. Using a small needle, the cosmetic surgeon carefully injects the diluted BOTOX® solution into the treatment area. Again, only the arrector pili muscles on the surface layer of the skin are treated.

The total treatment time is about 30 minutes. Patients will be able to return to most of their normal activities without any downtime of interruption.

Micro BOTOX® Injection Side Effects

The most common side effects of Micro BOTOX® include the following:

  • Redness around the injection site
  • Minor discomfort
  • Light swelling

For most patients, these side effects will subside on their own within 24 to 72 hours. Patients will be encouraged to avoid strenuous physical activity on the day of their treatment. Similarly, patients should avoid direct exposure to sunlight for the first few days following Micro BOTOX® treatment.

The Results of Micro BOTOX®

Following Micro BOTOX® treatment, patients will experience smaller, tighter pores that are far less prominent than they were before. In addition, patients will typically have skin that is less oily and shiny due to the decreased sebum production. This can help with general facial aesthetics and can also improve the look of your makeup when it is applied.

How Long Does Micro BOTOX® Last?

In most cases, Micro BOTOX® treatments last around four months, with some patients experiencing benefits of treatment for up to six months. Once the results of an initial Micro BOTOX® treatment have worn off, patients can undergo an additional Micro BOTOX® injection to prolong/extend the aesthetic results.
