Patients interested in facial rejuvenation are often reticent to proceed for fear of looking worse. Everyone has seen the unfortunate patient with the “Bad Facelift,” and patients are unanimous in wanting to avoid it. Numerous alternatives are available to women seeking breast reconstruction. Most commonly, patients are offered a simple technique, a tissue expander, or a complicated one, like a free-flap reconstruction (DIEP flap.) Women with ptotic or “droopy” breasts are often interested in a breast lift or mastopexy to improve their breast shape, but are reluctant to do so because they believe that the nipple and areola are completely removed and replaced as part of the procedure.
