BOTOX® injections have been gaining in popularity over the years. This cosmetic injectable offers a non-surgical approach to facial rejuvenation and enhancement. A number of our patients throughout the Dallas, TX area have benefitted from BOTOX® cosmetic treatment, and have been satisfied with their results.

While there is no surgery involved, there are some temporary side effects to keep in mind. Below is some general information about BOTOX® injections, their side effects, and what patients can expect after treatment.

How BOTOX® Injections Work

BOTOX® injections are cosmetic injections that stop muscle contractions from occurring at the injection sites. This prevents the appearance of wrinkles that form as a result of muscle movements. These kinds of wrinkles are known as dynamic wrinkles, and they are only visible when you make certain kinds of facial expressions. By stopping muscle movement, the skin is not agitated, and the dynamic wrinkles do not appear, which leaves your skin looking younger.

Common Side Effects after BOTOX® Injection Treatment

Some of the most common side effects of BOTOX® injections include:

  • Soreness around the injection site
  • Redness around the injection site
  • Facial swelling
  • Slight bruising
  • Headaches
  • Flu-like symptoms

These side effects are typically mild and require no major monitoring or extra attention. Patients will often be asked to avoid touching or rubbing the face near the injection sites to help these side effects pass sooner.

How Long Do These Side Effects Last?

BOTOX® injection side effects do not last particularly long. Most patients notice the side effects resolve on their own after a few hours, though sometimes symptoms can last a day or a few days. If any side effects persist and get worse, be sure to get in touch with the practice so these matters can be looked into as soon as possible.

Will I Need to Take Time Off From Work?

No.

One of the great things about BOTOX® cosmetic treatment is that there is no downtime like one would experience during facial surgery. Instead, patients can simply get their BOTOX® injections performed in a short office visit and return to normal daily life without any hassles or interruptions.

How Long Do BOTOX® Injection Results Last?

The results of BOTOX® injection treatment can last anywhere from three to six months. In some instances, the results may last a bit longer.

Thankfully, repeat BOTOX® injections can be performed in order to prolong the cosmetic outcomes. This means you can look years younger and more refreshed without the need for surgery and without the worry of post-surgical scarring.
